A while back, after coming home from my Advanced Algebra IV course, my then-girlfriend asked me what my favorite number was.

``0,'' I said. ``Because it is the additive identity element. What's yours?''

``1,'' she said. ``Because when you multiply it by any other number, you get that number back.''

I'm sure I don't need to tell you how humorous I found this to be.

``But when multiplied by zero, you still get zero,'' I said, laughing. ``Nothing beats zero at multiplication.''

Add another 1 to the ex-girlfriend counter.
